FIRST NATIONS COMMUNITY FOOD SYSTEMS
While working with the BC Ministry of Agriculture, our company founder, Jammi Kumar conceptualised, implemented and managed First Nations community Food Systems project.
Community Food Systems is a program designed to create awareness among the First Nations communities regarding the importance of fresh locally grown/processed food for healthy living. And,to transform existing resources into employment generation initiatives.
Program was funded by ActNow BC. Participating communities received funding for starting small scale agriculture projects, training of local personnel and establishment of community kitchens for processing of local food and value-added sales.
Community Food Systems program received Premier's award for Innovation & Excellence in 2010.
FIRST NATIONS AGRICULTURE NEEDS ASSESSMENT
While working as General Manager of WRMT, Jammi Kumar managed the First Nations Needs assessment project.
Purpose of the project was to ensure that BC Ministry of Agriculture's First Nations Agriculture program is meaningful and useful to our First Nations clientele. The results of this needs assessment project are incorporated into Ministry's work program.
The project was collaboration between Ministry of Agriculture and First Nations Agriculture Association. Community meetings were held in 47 First Nations across the Province. Approximately 450 community members participated in the exercise.
FIRST NATIONS PRODUCE ACCESS INITIATIVE
Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC in collaboration with BC Ministry of Agriculture hired the services of Jammi Kumar to manage First Nations Produce Access Initiative Phase III.
Building on the success of Community Food Systems Project, Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with Heart & Stroke foundation is currently assisting First Nations. Purpose of this program is to assist remote communities in accessing fresh produce for healthy living.
Our General Manager provides overall project management services for this program, which included conceptual design, implementation, and evaluation. Project involves assisting 14 remote located First nations in start-up of community gardens and training of community members in design and management of gardens. First nations received grants for garden inputs and wages for local project coordinators.
INDUSTRIAL HEMP FIBRE VALUE CHAIN DEVELOPMENT
Jammi Kumar had assisted District of 100 Mile House in production, processing and establishment of value chain for Industrial Hemp, an emerging industry in the province.
Jammi had been involved in development of Industrial Hemp fibre industry in BC. We provided advisory services to District of 100 Mile House in project conceptualization, community support, liaison with First Nations, formulation of business plans, project proposals for funding, market evaluation and investment facilitation. District of 100 Mile House intends to establish a fibre processing facility for production of green construction materials and bio-composites for automotive industry.
